Work and Juan

MARYJEAN worked yesterday morning and did it smartly. She went five furlongs in 1:00.80, swift enough for second of 25 works at the distance. She came back nicely and seems to well positioned for her race next weekend. We’ll be entering Wednesday for Saturday. By mid-afternoon we’ll know if the race went, if we’re going to be running and I’ll announce it here. On Tuesday I’ll post the division of the group and the paddock rotation.

Michelle also got us some nice video of Clay’s assistant Juan talking to us about MARYJEAN.

  1. We were wondering if you are looking at a race on Saturday or Sunday. Doesn’t look like anything in the Condition book or overnight for Saturday a Sub race on Sunday looks like a good possibility. Trying to plan a bit and was wondering which day her entry is likey to be.

    • Yes, sorry, it is indeed a Sunday race. No guarantees that it will fill, of course, but we’ll know on Thursday, not Wednesday.

  2. If the race goes do we know where in the card it will be ran.. I would be traveling but would love to come watch.

    Thanks
    Scott

    • Races are carded to maximize handle and have a nice sequence of races for the pick 3 and pick 4 wagers therefore we won’t know that until entries are drawn.

  3. What conditions does Maryjean race under and qualify for? I’m afraid I can’t remember how old she is and how many races she’s won! Kathy

    • She’s 5 and has won 3 races. Technically she’s still eligible for a claiming non-winners of 4 lifetime, but those races are few and far between. She would also be eligible for a first level allowance, that is horses that have not won a race OTHER than maiden, claiming or starter, since her three wins have all come in claiming company. She would have to show some significant improvement, however, before we’d try her there.
