Congratulations!

MARYJEAN and young Mr. Esquivel ran a beautiful race tonight at Hawthorne, taking the 8th race by 4 1/2 lengths (winner’s purse share: $4920). MJ was well positioned throughout and Esquivel sat patiently on the rail. When there was an opening, he sent her on through and she did the rest impressively as the narrow 2nd choice (Slick Philly was 1.40 to 1 while our gal was 1.50 to 1).

When Slick Philly could not get out to an uncontested lead and I saw her sitting in 4th I was feeling pretty good about things and once she struck the front, there was no looking back.

We’ll see how she comes back but look for her to return at $5,000 again as the year starts to wind down. Same for TERICE. She came out of her race well and we’ll be looking at making her an enticing claim over the next couple of starts.

Nice job by Clay, Juan and all the folks in the barn.

  1. Wow – Her passing button was really working tonight!!! I told you to get into the winner picture!!! šŸ™‚ Nice job MJ, Clay, Juan, and Mr. Esquival!! Thanks!!!!

  2. It was a good ride, fun to watch while at Canterbury for Breeders’ Cup… of course MaryJean provided me with the only ticket I cashed all day….

  3. Think we found our new jockey. Thought he rode a great race, never letting Mary Jean get too far back. Hope he can ride her again in her next race. Would like to see him ride Terice as well in her next race.

    • I thought it was a very patient ride as well. He went ahead and waited until there was an opening rather than getting sent around and she took it while taking the shortest route home. Very well done.

  4. So what is stopping say 3 of us club members getting together and claiming MaryJean? New to this but I think there is a bunch of owners paperwork. I’d be in. Any other takers?

    • A couple of technicalities here:

      I had to turn in a complete list of folks in the Club even though I’m the only one that needed to get licensed. Technically an owner can’t claim their own horse;

      You’d need a trainer. Clay is the trainer of record and a trainer cannot claim their own horse, even if it is for different owners.

      That said, if several of you wanted to band together to privately purchase MJ, that’s a different story entirely that we can discuss off-line.

    • HEY PETE RICK PAGEL HERE YA THAT WOULD BE INTERESTING AT LEAST TO PUT A PENCIL TO IT AND SEE WHETHER IT MADE SENSE LETS GIVE IT SOME THOUGHT AND SEE IF THERE ARE ANY OTHER TAKERS THANKS

      • Any other takers? Wondering what the appropriate “rainy day” fund would be to start. Seems like CRC may have a deep rainy day fund.
