Ready…Set…CLAIM!

We’re at Hawthorne and have touched base with the licensing folks and we’ll be ready to go next week. Additionally Clay and I have spoken about what we’re looking for and I told him “A couple like last year, just a little better!”

Seriously, though, we are looking for a couple of horses between $5000 and $10,000 that have shown some consistency and durability. If we happen across a solid MN-bred, more the better.

Now we’re on the lookout and with racing moving to 3-days a week in Chicago shortly and the barns filling up, our next runner is out there somewhere!

    • We’ll be starting with $38,500 in the bank so I’m comfortable with a $20,000 horse budget for 2. Given about $2500 for expenses per horse per month, that leaves about 2.5 months in the bank just in case we don’t win a race. I think thats a safe budget to pick up 2 horses to help the Club fulfill its educational mission.

  1. I,m not joining this year. When can I expect my money from last year? It’s a beautiful day in the Villages, Pat Cady From: Canterbury Racing Club To: patcady306@yahoo.com Sent: Saturday, February 28, 2015 6:17 PM Subject: [New post] Ready…Set…CLAIM! #yiv9504139921 a:hover {color:red;}#yiv9504139921 a {text-decoration:none;color:#0088cc;}#yiv9504139921 a.yiv9504139921primaryactionlink:link, #yiv9504139921 a.yiv9504139921primaryactionlink:visited {background-color:#2585B2;color:#fff;}#yiv9504139921 a.yiv9504139921primaryactionlink:hover, #yiv9504139921 a.yiv9504139921primaryactionlink:active {background-color:#11729E;color:#fff;}#yiv9504139921 WordPress.com | tlgrevelis posted: “We’re at Hawthorne and have touched base with the licensing folks and we’ll be ready to go next week. 3. We look forward to the upcoming season. Hope we can find a “Maryjean” in this years claims. Heading to Tampa Bay Downs tomorrow for a warm up to the racing season. Good picking to Ted and Clay in the claiming game!

  4. For those who were in last years group, Maryjean is racing in the 6th at Oaklawn today. She is in a $6250 claiming race.

  5. Again Maryjean grinds out a win in Arkansas on a sloppy track. She lost the lead in the stretch but dug in and came back to win by a nose. I believe that is now 7 wins out of her last 8 races.

    • MaryJean was claimed by Joe Sharp (Rosie Napravniks husband). Maybe she can entice Rosie to give her a little personal tlc given her hot streak and easy going manner. MJ has had the journey, from our racing club to Maggie Moss to Rosie’s family.
Does anyone know if there was a large number of claims put in on her like last time?

      • I couldn’t find it for sure but I did some calling around and heard that it was a 14-way shake. That said, the person didn’t know if it was 14 for just MJ or 14 total for the 4 horses claimed out of the race.
