TENS WILD heads back to the post on Saturday drawing the rail in a mile and a sixteenth contest over the main track at Hawthorne. The race has mixed conditions. Eligibility is reserved for:
Horses that have started for a claiming price of $5,000 or less in 2014-15
OR
$12,500 Claiming
TENS has not been entered for $5,000 or less ever, so he is entered under the claiming condition. The horses that do meet this “starter” eligibility are not eligible to be claimed in the race. Races run under those conditions are called “starter allowances” because the horse has to have “started” for a certain claiming price or less while not eligible to be claimed (like an allowance race). Mixing conditions like this is a way to broaden the entries in a race and hopefully create a larger field for wagering. This race drew 8 and all but the 5 horse are in for $12,500.
Chris Emigh gets the ride. Chris is the leading jockey at Hawthorne right now for money and races won. He’s a solid addition to the team.
The race is the 4th and estimated post time is 3:40 PM. TENS will meet stable mate Indy Awesome as well as his vanquisher from the last race, Ballyjamesduff in addition to 5 others.
So this is why I stay in the club year after year. I’ve been playing since Canterbury opened in 1985, and I STILL had no idea why there were these types of “starter allowance” races, or what they really were actually. Thanks for doing this as always!
Leading jockey sure is a positive.
My friend and I are thinking about showing up for the race!!! I would love to cheer Tens on!!
