Lil goes tonight in the 4th race. The race is maiden special weight on the turf going five furlongs. Alonso Quinonez is the rider and we break from post 9.
We outlined the procedure in the last post for those of you that can attend the races on the main floor. PLEASE keep in mind that because of the restrictions in place, we are not going to be going in the paddock. Last race there was some sneaking into the paddock for photos and, should that continue, we may have to restrict access to track level altogether. We’re all trying to do what we can to remain compliant to keep racing, please don’t jeopardize that.
On to the preview.
Dixie Nation (Cline/Harr) – First turf try but had some decent outs last year here and a solid third in February in an Oaklawn maiden special weight. A closing type.
Let’s Pardi Marti (Williams/Arrieta) – A third on the Arizona turf first out as a 2-year old, this will be here three year old debut.
Blue Lizzy (Silva/Garcia) – FIRST TIME STARTER
Raggedy Doll Peach (Brinson/Velazquez) – FIRST TIME STARTER
Inthemistymoonlight (Bethke/Hernandez) – FIRST TIME STARTER
Margarita Munndy (Stuart/Eikleberry) – Just missed last out at Sam Houston over their turf course in her first 2020 start. Was close throughout and has some speed. Also fired off a layoff before so certainly could again.
Turqoise Trail (Litfin/Roman) – Nevada’s other filly in the field. Has shown a little speed early in the past but looks, like us, that he couldn’t get her a cheaper race on the grass.
Cynical Girl (Robertson/Chirinos) – She standouts in the Form. A good 2nd off the layoff and Beyer Speed Figures well above anyone else. Should track and blow by late. There is a reason we run the races, though. But there is also a reason why horses go off at 3/5.
LILFEATHEREDINDIAN (LIFTIN/QUINONEZ)
Ms Sassy Attitude (Robertson/Canchari) Another Mac runner who has shown more than most in this field. Had speed and faded after the layoff but probably needed a race and should step up a little in here.
This is my “can we win section” here and, as much as I’d like to layout a scenario where we handle Cynical Girl, it’s hard to see that we will. Our girl’s best race was over the turf in a maiden special at Lone Star where she was really unsettled and had a rough trip.
There is no reason to think that she won’t step up on the turf here and she has show early speed in the past but has been unable to maintain it. That may be our shot in this one – go and don’t come back (though I haven’t spoken to Nevada about that so I’m purely speculating).
My honest assessment is that is we can hit the board, earn some money and live to fight another day when we can get a lower maiden claimer on the turf to go, then I’ll be happy.
Don’t forget – comin up next will be Satellite on Monday and…
FURZY IN WEDNESDAY
An odd season continues with Furzy getting the class relief we want but not in the way we wanted it.
The $5000 maiden claimer did not fill again this past week. A race that was run here every other week in past seasons can’t get more than four runner right now – for fillies and mares. So we entered her to run that low against the boys. Hopefully in the interim a fillies and mares race comes up, but she came back strong, has been working well and we have to run, so next Wednesday we’ll take a shot against the boys at the bottom and see what she can do.
REMINDER: Canterbury races are available to stream online for free at the Canterburypark.com website.
And boom just like that a huge win.
Great race tonight, we’ll take that. Congratulations everyone.
Very nice run. Horse looked very confident and if I didnt know any better was smiling on the way to the winners circle!
Nice job Alonzo, Nevada, and all…
