We finally got a race for MUNDY. The race is 7.5 furlongs on the turf. There are two conditions for the race, called a started allowance/optional claiming: 1) fillies and mares that have started for a claiming price of $10,000 or less OR 2) entered for a claiming price of $12,500. What this means is that if you enter a horse under condition #1 it is not eligible to be claimed. You can also enter under condition #2 which is a straight claiming price of $12,500. MUNDY is entered under condition #2. The purse is $20,000.
The field is small, only 6 horses, but it is a pretty strong one. MACHORINA fits the first condition, so she’s back and former jockey (and Steve’s brother) Cash Assmussen, has a nice mare up from Texas and there are a couple of other familiar faces. I’ll break the race down later in the week.
We will have a spot in Silks on Friday. Race 3 is the first race after the Quarter Horse races and I will meet you all in Silks for Race 2. This time Group 4 gets there shot in the paddock. As a reminder, Group 4 is S – Z. Groups 2 & 3 have started a streak, so Group 4 has some pressure (and a bit of a tougher race, to be fair).
EDDY photos will be available upstairs at the 3rd floor info booth. If you were on the “no photo” list, you will be again unless you let us know otherwise. Anyone else not need a photo, please let us know (ted@grevelisracing.com) and we’ll save the money in the group.
Aside from a chance of storms today, we’re looking at clear skies (allegedly) from tomorrow forward so MUNDY should get her firm course. Additionally, she worked wonderfully on the 6th, going 4 furlongs in :48 flat – the fastest work of the day at that distance. More importantly she came out of it just fine and is anxious to race with some purpose.
See you all on Friday and continued GOOD LUCK!
Come on group 4 don’t let us down. I will be there is spirit and be watching on-line as I am working Friday evening…Looks to be a tough race for sure.
FYI: Great Bam and KoR are entered in race 10 Friday
And for those sticking until the end (and in last year’s group), Great Bam is running in the 10th. Cheer him for old time sake!
